Predicted Leeds XI vs Brighton

The wheels have come off at Leeds United and they are now the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League in that final spot in the relegation zone.

They were never expected to beat defending champions Manchester City but two ill-tempered, dire defeats against Arsenal and Chelsea have likely sealed their fate.

And amid injury concerns and suspensions, manager Jesse Marsch has no easy task with Brighton and Hove Albion up next this afternoon.

If Burnley lose to Tottenham Hotspur in today’s lunchtime kick-off, then a point would be enough to see the Whites lifted out of the drop zone ahead of Brentford next weekend, though the Clarets still have a game in hand.

Given the squad crisis at his hands, it’ll be interesting to see what sort of side the American will name at Elland Road, that’s for sure. Here’s what we are predicting…

Between the sticks, Illan Meslier is likely to remain as the first-choice goalkeeper but there could be some alterations to the backline as Jamie Shackleton comes in at right-back with Luke Ayling suspended.

Skipper Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente could be the central defensive pairing, meaning Robin Koch makes way, whilst on the left, we could see a return for Junior Firpo in what could be a back four.

In midfield, Kalvin Phillips should continue in the engine room and he’s surely going to be joined by Mateusz Klich, who regains his place in the starting XI over U23 gem Lewis Bate.

Further up the pitch, Rodrigo will surely take up a role in the no.10 spot, with Raphinha and Jack Harrison on either flank, The £13.5m-rated winger went off injured at Stamford Bridge but is expected to be fit for this encounter.

Meanwhile, in the absence of Patrick Bamford, we could see Joe Gelhardt gifted a start up top, with Daniel James also suspended. The 20-year-old, described as a “wrecking ball” by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, is Marsch’s only available and fit senior striker right now.

Predicted Leeds XI (4-2-3-1): Meslier; Firpo, Cooper, Llorente, Shackleton; Phillips, Klich; Harrison, Rodrigo, Raphinha; Gelhardt

Celtic: Ralston is Ange’s big success story

For the tenth time in 11 seasons, Celtic have done it, they are the Scottish Premiership winners and few can argue that the Hoops don’t deserve it.

When Ange Postecoglou arrived in Glasgow, the Bhoys were in disarray. Their fiercest rivals had won the title and it looked as though a number of players would depart.

Indeed, as the likes of Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer all headed for pastures new, the future looked rather bleak.

Yet, Postecoglou’s transfer policy and the way he’s crafted and fine-tuned players this season has been nothing short of sensational.

The rebuild had no right to be this quick but it’s a testament to his hard work at Lennoxtown. He is a Premiership title winner in his first campaign in Scotland and even if they could only muster a 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Wednesday evening, the performance of a certain Anthony Ralston typified the graft that some have put in under Postecoglou’s tutelage.

The full-back only played once in the league throughout the entirety of last season but despite the arrival of Josip Juranovic last summer, Ralston has become vital and is now rather surprisingly one of the most consistent figures at Parkhead.

This term, the Scot has featured on 27 occasions in the Premiership, scoring four times and registering eight assists, the last of which came at Tannadice on Wednesday.

It came from one of the defender’s seven crosses throughout the game as he put in a tantalising ball for Giorgos Giakoumakis to fire home and seal yet another league title.

Throughout the encounter, Ralston took a whopping 130 touches of the ball – the most of anyone on the pitch – and also amassed 87 accurate passes, the third most of any player on Wednesday.

The fact he was so involved is a credit to the confidence he’s taken on this term and as a result, he’s gone from a bit-part player to someone who will only become more important to Celtic as the years go on.

Described as a “ballet dancer” and “superman” by Dominik Diamond, he was also compared to one of the greatest passers of a football in modern football by the Celtic Way’s Tony Haggerty.

Writing in his post-match player ratings, the Celtic blogger said: “The right-back produced a sensational 60-yard Andrea Pirloesque diagonal cross-field pass to Forrest before blasting a left-foot shot over the bar in the opening exchanges. He marauded forward at will and had a lot of joy down the flank. It was no surprise when he stood up a brilliant cross from which Giakoumakis buried a header seven minutes after the interval.”

That typifies his all-action nature and also why he’s one of the manager’s greatest successes since penning terms at Paradise.

Ralston has gone from underused and underappreciated to one of the real heroes of their title success in 2022. What a story.

Wolves: Daniel Podence nearing return

Wolves could have winger Daniel Podence available for the final three Premier League matches of the season.

What’s the latest?

According to goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts, as quoted by Birmingham Live, “Daniel has been doing a bit of training so we will see what happens with him.”

That was stated before yesterday’s thrilling 2-2 draw away at Chelsea with manager Bruno Lage unable to take the press conference nor travel to the capital following a positive virus test.

The Portuguese was absent from the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge and hasn’t featured for Lage’s side since the 2-1 win against Aston Villa over a month ago whilst nursing a foot injury.

However, his return will be incredibly timely with Wolves targeting a third seventh-place finish in four seasons.

Lage will be buzzing

It could definitely be argued that it’s no coincidence that Wolves had lost three games in a row without scoring whilst without Podence before yesterday’s draw.

Moreover, the West Midlands outfit had gone 2-0 down at Stamford Bridge before Chelsea crumbled and conceded two goals late on.

The 26-year-old has scored six times and registered three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this term with goals a rarity for the Old Gold this season.

Only Burnley, Watford and Norwich have scored fewer Premier League goals than the Golden Boys’ 35, with the latter two now relegated.

Moreover, Podence’s tally is an improvement on the three goals and two assists last year, although the winger did score all three in the league whilst his tally in the top-flight currently stands at two this term.

With Wolves sat in eighth, there’s still a chance that the Black Country club secures European football for next season with seventh place West Ham just two points ahead whilst sixth-place Manchester United have an eight-point gap but have played two extra games.

Although it’s not in his side’s hands, Lage will be keen to have as many of his key players available for the final three games as possible as they look to make a late climb up the table.

If Podence can return to fitness in time for the final matches, it will certainly boost his side’s chances of securing European football.

Thierry Nevers: West Ham’s new Antonio?

It’s no secret that West Ham are arguably one of the teams of the season in the Premier League.

It has been an incredible campaign that has seen them flirt with a top-four spot on occasions and witnessed a stunning run to the Europa League semi-finals.

David Moyes has got his side firing during his second tenure in charge and there seems to be no ceiling for his side as they chase success.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-this-weeks-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more” title= “Read the latest West Ham news!”]

His diligent recruitment along with a fearless mentality has powered his team to some fine wins during the campaign, with many players contributing to the cause.

Next season will be different, however, as West Ham hero and club stalwart Mark Noble won’t be there as he is retiring at the end of the current campaign. There could also be fresh options in attack with the club lacking many options at centre-forward.

As a result, Moyes may save the club millions by promoting from the U23 squad, and he could well have an exciting player in the mold of Michail Antonio, who is ready to stake his claim.

Thierry Nevers is versatile and while primarily operating as a left-winger, he is adept at playing across any position along the forward line and this variety is what Moyes urgently needs.

With Antonio going through a bit of a scoring drought at the moment, netting only once in his previous 12 matches, Nevers may find himself involved sooner rather than later.

Academy manager Ricky Martin has dubbed him as “impressive” when he signed for the club and has “been on fire” in the words of Roshane Thomas alongside fellow U23 player Armstrong Okoflex which could tempt Moyes to see how pre-season goes and potentially give them an opportunity early in the campaign.

Like Antonio, Nevers has a strong eye for goal, scoring seven times this season in a variety of positions which will make him more attractive to the manager in the long haul.

West Ham could have a new generation of youth talents coming through the academy, let’s hope they don’t go to waste.

Udogie upgrade: Spurs enter race to sign “the world’s most coveted left-back”

Are Tottenham Hotspur finding their feet under Thomas Frank’s stewardship?

Certainly, we have seen green shoots in recent matches. After that dismal home defeat to Fulham at the end of November, Spurs battled to a 2-2 draw at St. James’ Park before beating Brentford in the Premier League and Slavia Prague in the Champions League.

Two clean sheets from two games, but Tottenham still could do with reinforcements in the rearguard. Namely, ENIC Group are planning to help Frank piece together a lasting project with a new left-back.

Destiny Udogie picked up a hamstring injury against Newcastle United and will be out until the New Year. But the Italian defender has been out of sorts this season anyway, and Tottenham are ready to take action.

Spurs' search for a left-back

Udogie quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous up-and-coming full-backs in Europe after joining Tottenham from Hellas Verona. Better known for his time on loan with Udinese across multiple years, the Italian was hailed as “the best left-back” in the country by Clinton Morrison on BBC Sport a few months into his arrival under Ange Postecoglou’s wing.

Destiny Udogie for Tottenham

However, Udogie’s persistent injury issues have stunted his growth, and the 23-year-old has been told he “needs to wake up” by one coach this term, lacking awareness and dynamism. With Ben Davies getting on – and rarely getting off the bench – competition is needed, especially with the Lilywhites making headway in the Champions League.

That’s why Fabio Paratici and Johan Lange are circling in on Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, with TEAMtalk revealing that the 22-year-old German international is on Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of the winter window.

A versatile wideman with no qualms about playing further upfield, Brown would add depth and new dimensions to Frank’s team, though this is a sentiment shared with rivals, Arsenal and Manchester United also among the suitors named.

He would cost upwards of £50m, but Brown has the potential to become one of the best in the business, and he would slot right into Frank’s set-up.

What Brown would bring to Spurs

Brown, a German-born player with American heritage, boasts blistering pace and a desire to progress play whenever he can. However, he is also defensively sound, mixing between duties seamlessly.

As per FBref, Brown ranks among the top 9% of full-backs across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for assists and the top 3% for tackles per 90, underlining his dynamism and ability to mix defence with attack.

In this, he has something of a likeness to Udogie, the finest iteration of the Italy star, and while Spurs’ talented wide defender has fallen by the wayside of late, his profile remains tailor-made for a starring role in one of Europe’s top outfits.

Brown, moreover, is on an upward trajectory, with analyst Spencer Mossman claiming earlier in 2025 that he is “one-two years away from being the most coveted left back” in the world. Already, several of the Premier League’s biggest sides want to bring him over, suggesting that he is indeed ahead of that prediction already.

Frankfurt has a rather porous defence this season, and that is a concern, but Brown is one of the standouts, showcasing an impressive mix of qualities. Furthermore, he rode the crest of a wave into the current campaign, having played so well in the Bundesliga last year.

As we can see from the respective left-backs’ Champions League campaigns, Brown is enjoying greater success, with his staggering duel success rate something to note.

Last season, talent scout Jacek Kulig said Brown is “moving to another level”, so perhaps it is the right time for him to take the leap of faith over the channel and down N17 to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What Tottenham decide to do remains to be seen, but Frank needs a few more instruments in his tactical toolbox, and Brown could mark his crowning signing as improvements start to reveal themselves.

Everton "concerned" and now want January move for "tremendous" striker

After three games without a win, Everton now reportedly want to address one of their concerns by signing a talented forward when the January transfer window arrives.

Everton's early Premier League concern

The Toffees initially got off to a positive start and even saw summer signing Jack Grealish pick up the Premier League Player of the Month award in August. Since then, however, David Moyes’ side have stuttered for the first time – failing to win in three games.

Defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup was a particularly disappointing game for the Merseyside club, but one that they must bounce back from when West Ham United come to town on Monday night.

Everton’s biggest concern in their recent run has come in attack. They’ve scored just once in their last three games, which was Idrissa Gueye’s Anfield strike, and have watched on as Beto has particularly struggled.

The forward was taken off at half-time for Thierno Barry in the Merseyside derby and the Toffees went on to enjoy a much-improved second period. Whether that will be that for Beto’s starting place will be interesting to see.

Moyes didn’t hold back when delivering his verdict on the forward earlier this season, telling reporters: “I’ve been a bit disappointed with Beto and I’ve told him.

“We’re needing a bit more and he can do more and he has done more. So we’re hoping we can get a bit more from him, but he’s a really honest working lad and I’m sure he’ll try and prove that tonight.”

Whilst Barry gets up to speed, there’s still a chance for Beto to prove his worth. But Moyes’ patience won’t last forever and speculation is already arriving over a potential move that the Toffees could make to replace their forward in January.

Everton eyeing move for Norwich striker Josh Sargent

As reported by Graeme Bailey and Everton News, Everton now want to sign Josh Sargent in the January transfer window and are keeping tabs on the Norwich City striker, who has been in fine form.

The Toffees could land a rival star…

ByTom Cunningham Sep 25, 2025

The American has been linked with a move away from Carrow Road for some time and could finally earn a route back to the Premier League in January. After scoring six goals in seven Championship games too, it’s clear that he’s good enough to step up.

The Friedkin Group proved that they’re not afraid to spend big in the summer transfer window and could do so once again when the winter window swings open.

He earns 2x more than Anderson: PIF must sell "disappointing" Newcastle dud

Newcastle United have made it through the storm that was the summer transfer window, and Saturday’s controlled victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers has got the ball rolling for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Premier League proved a happy playground for the Magpies last season, who also won the Carabao Cup and have qualified for the Champions League, which looms very large indeed.

It’s a shame that Alexander Isak won’t be with the Toon, but the Sweden striker forced his way out and signed for Liverpool in a record-breaking deal.

In different circumstances, Elliot Anderson continues to go from strength to strength away from St. James’ Park, and while the homegrown talent would have been a perfect fit in this United side, Howe moved to sign some kind of replacement in Jacob Ramsey.

Ramsey could be Howe's new Anderson

It’s been over a year since Anderson left Newcastle for Nottingham Forest in a £35m deal, forcibly cut away by PIF because of PSR.

It’s fair to say the 23-year-old has been thriving of late, awarded the Man of the Match award in each of his first two Three Lions caps and playing an instrumental part for a high-flying Tricky Trees outfit, hailed by analyst Ben Mattinson as a “midfield warrior” and a “powerhouse carrier with a bit of passing range”.

However, Howe signed Ramsey from Aston Villa in a £42m package this summer, and while the dynamic midfielder is currently sidelined with injury, he has the skill to play a similar role: athletic and dynamic, he offers a forward-thinking skillset.

If Ramsey can overcome his current fitness setback, an ankle injury, then he could become a real player for Howe’s side.

And should he reach his potential at the club, where would this leave Joe Willock?

Why Newcastle must now sell Joe Willock

Regarding numbers, Newcastle are hardly overloaded in the middle of the park. Sean Longstaff was sold to Leeds United for £10m this summer, and Isaac Hayden departed on a free transfer.

But Willock might find his playing time reduced with Ramsey now in the ranks. Once an attacking midfielder, the former Arsenal prospect has been fashioned into more of a number eight, but injuries and subsequent struggles for form have kept him on the periphery over the past few years.

An energetic and tenacious midfielder, the 26-year-old Willock has been frustrated by hamstring and achilles injuries in recent times, but when on the field he has left plenty to be desired, having been branded as “disappointing” a year ago by The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, who was discussing how the Englishman needed to step up, as his ball-carrying ability was a cut above his teammates’ own skills.

That’s no longer the case. Ramsey is a high-level dribbler, and his big-money addition certainly suggests that Howe is willing to invest time and effort into shaping him into the player he ought to become.

If that means that Willock needs to be sold, it’s a sacrifice the manager might be willing to make. After all, Willock earns a healthy salary of £80k per week, which isn’t as much as the £120k-per-week Ramsey, but is actually double the £40k-per-week earnings of Anderson over at the City Ground, as per Capology.

The key points here are twofold: Ramsey is valued, entrusted with a big role in the squad and expected to deliver in the years to come; Willock himself earns a fair wage, but his diminished returns of late suggest Newcastle might not be getting bang for their buck.

The lad’s natural talent was never up for dispute. He’s a sharp playmaker with the movement and vision to make things happen. He’s the complete package. But Newcastle have other such players, and even with Anderson long sold, the arrival of Ramsey issues a warning to Willock, who has only played 25 minutes of football so far this season.

Willock is no longer a spring chicken, and given the strength of Newcastle’s starting midfield trident and the addition of Ramsey, it would appear his days are numbered on Tyneside, should he want to play regular minutes during the prime years of his career.

Given that he earns a pretty penny – double as much as Anderson at Forest – the need to ship him out is only heightened, especially with the likes of Lewis Miley waiting in the wings.

Howe could have benefitted from this talent’s qualities at Newcastle this season.

Amorim's own McTominay: Man Utd make contact to sign "world-class" £50m ace

Manchester United need a huge rebuild over the summer transfer window, with Ruben Amorim desperately needing to make his own mark on the current first-team squad.

His side were only able to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table, with their Europa League final defeat against Tottenham Hotspur topping off their dismal campaign.

However, the manager has wasted no time in making the changes he wants to the side, allowing Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans all set to depart at the end of their contracts.

Matheus Cunha appears to be the first signing of the summer window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that he’s set to move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils agreed a £62.5m deal with Wolves.

Whilst the deal hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’s likely to be the start of a big few months for Amorim, with other players on their radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The latest on United’s hunt for new additions this summer

Even though the window is yet to open, United have been in constant pursuit of a new talisman, with Viktor Gyokeres the main man on the list in such a department after his stint under Amorim at Sporting CP.

However, it appears that they may miss out on the 26-year-old this summer, with the latest report claiming that they could be set to miss out on the Swede, with other targets ahead of him this summer.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokerescelebrates scoring their third goal to complete his hat-trick

Whilst it’s disappointing, other targets in other areas have also been considered in recent days, with Atalanta’s central midfielder Ederson the latest on their shortlist, according to CaughtOffside.

The report claims that the Red Devils have made contact with the Serie A side over a potential move ahead of the upcoming window, demanding a fee in the region of £50m for the Brazilian.

It also states that the 25-year-old is also on the radar of local rivals Liverpool, with Amorim’s side needing to work tirelessly to avoid missing out on his signature this summer.

Why United’s £50m star could be Amorim’s own McTominay

Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay departed United last summer for just £25m, bringing his 22-year spell at Old Trafford to an end, joining Italian outfit Napoli.

He registered over 250 appearances for the Red Devils, but it was decided by former boss Erik ten Hag and the hierarchy that it was the right time to cash in on the 28-year-old.

However, his switch to Serie A has taken his career to the next level, registering 13 goals and four assists across all competitions, leading Antonio Conte’s side to the league title in 2024/25.

On a personal level, it was the best season of McTominay’s career, scoring the most goals he has ever scored in a single campaign, subsequently being named the Serie A Player of the Year.

The deal to allow him to leave now looks a huge mistake, but Amorim could land his own version of the midfielder with a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson in the next few months.

When comparing their stats from this season, the Brazilian has matched or bettered him in numerous key areas, highlighting the quality he possesses in and out of possession.

Ederson, who’s been labelled “world-class” by one former professional, may have registered fewer goals, but has matched the Scotsman’s goal per shot on target rate – having the clinical nature needed in front of goal.

He’s also managed to complete more passes and made more passes into the final third, handing the players in front of him the chances to bolster their tallies and changing the Red Devils’ fortunes in attacking areas.

Out of possession, the Brazilian has been just as dominant, winning more tackles and making more interceptions – offering an added defensive presence at the heart of the midfield.

£50m may prove to be a massive investment from the hierarchy, but as seen by his stats, it’s a deal that would massively improve the options currently at the manager’s disposal.

If he manages to have such an impact like McTominay has at Napoli this campaign, it would prove to be a bargain, enabling Amorim to have the elite-level talents he needs to be a success at Old Trafford.

Better than Kelleher: Farke targeting Leeds move for “phenomenal” £25m star

Leeds United did manage to seal the Championship title with a bumper 100 points come the end of the 46-game marathon, but Daniel Farke’s side certainly made life a lot harder for themselves in the goalkeeper department.

Illan Meslier’s error-prone performances between the sticks nearly proved costly, resulting in the German having to bring in stand-in keeper Karl Darlow for the final few tense clashes of the second-tier campaign.

Karl Darlow

Whilst the ex-Newcastle United stopper did prove himself to be a solid performer in goal, it’s unlikely that Farke will solely rely on the Wales international to be his outright number one in such a daunting division.

Therefore, a whole host of new faces are being linked to step up and take on the first team mantle in goal, with this alternative target now being tipped to make the switch to Elland Road over the heavily fancied Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool's CaoimhinKelleher

Leeds' pursuit of a new keeper

Kelleher is one of the main names being touted to become Farke’s brand-new number one ahead of Premier League football returning to West Yorkshire, with the Irishman reportedly available for around the £30m mark.

He is mentioned as a possible Meslier replacement by the Daily Mail too, but the new report from the Mail does suggest that other top-flight experienced ‘keepers are on the Leeds agenda, such as ex-Arsenal man Aaron Ramsdale.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ reserve keeper Sam Johnstone is also floating about as a potential number one option, but if Leeds want to land an even more impressive buy than Kelleher, they should be going all in for Ramsdale over other figures.

The 27-year-old has suffered from shaky performances here and there, but he was once Mikel Arteta’s concrete first-team choice at Arsenal, where he proved himself as a top performer at an intimidating level.

Why Ramsdale would be even better than Kelleher

Of course, Kelleher has never been able to prove himself as a number-one option at Anfield, having always played in the shadows to the likes of Allisson.

But, regardless of whether he’s been given a fair crack under Arne Slot and other Reds bosses or not, if Leeds can land a far more experienced keeper at the level in Ramsdale for a slightly cheaper £25m, it feels like a pick-up they should prioritise over the promise of the 26-year-old coming good as a main starting presence.

At one point during his topsy-turvy Gunners career, Ramsdale was on cloud nine with his imperious displays in between the sticks, with this unbelievable save coming during the 2021/22 campaign that saw the ex-Sheffield United stopper collect an impressive 12 clean sheets from 34 league outings.

Heralded as “phenomenal” by ex-Arsenal legend David Seaman off the back of his glimpses of quality at the Emirates, it will just be up to Ramsdale to try and reach these lofty heights once more, donning a Leeds strip.

After all, he is well accustomed to the trials and tribulations of a relegation battle, having just accumulated a high 4.2 saves per Premier League tie for basement side Southampton.

The table above definitely reinforces how experienced Ramsdale is in the Premier League, despite only being a year older than Kelleher, with a near 200 games now played in the elite division. To add context, as a back-up face at Liverpool, his Cork-born counterpart has barely hit 30 clashes at 25 overall.

Therefore, whilst he will have an error in his back locker like Meslier, Leeds fans would surely feel more confident that the 27-year-old would come good over the gamble of Kelleher at £30m.

It will be fascinating to see who the Whites do eventually pick up in his vital position, knowing they cannot rely on Meslier if they are to beat the drop.

Levy personally wants '40 goals a season' striker at Tottenham next season

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy personally wants a striker who’s been tipped for great things in north London next season, with the Lilywhites board chief contemplating how best to reinforce Spurs’ squad this summer.

However, Spanish media are also reporting that there is a large gap in valuation between the clubs as things stand. Meanwhile, another key first-teamer who could depart is right-back Pedro Porro.

Some reports suggest Tottenham are prepared to sell Porro this summer and value the ex-Man City defender at £50 million. Everton are also expected to open talks for Richarlison, who could potentially leave Spurs in the event of a reasonable bid, following a 2024/2025 campaign blighted by injuries.

It will be intriguing to see which notable players could make their way out of the N17 exit door, as Levy and co look to reinvest funds into the squad whilst erring on the cautionary side of PSR.

One player who they already have an agreement to sign permanently for 2024/2025 and beyond is striker Mathys Tel.

The Frenchman is on loan from Bayern Munich, with Spurs possessing an option to make his stay indefinite for around £51 million.

Levy personally wants Mathys Tel at Tottenham next season

That is according to Sport Bild, who also report that Ange Postecoglou’s side are keen to whittle that price tag down after Tel’s mixed start to life at the club.

However, Levy is personally keen on signing Tel permanently and re-negotiating a deal with Bayern. Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians, for their part, are also willing to restart talks and settle on his final price at a cheaper value, which is good news for the Europa League finalists.

While the 20-year-old boasts just three goals and a single assist from 18 Spurs appearances to date, Tel has displayed flashes of brilliance since his arrival in the Premier League, with ex-Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann once backing him to eventually score “40 goals a season” and sharing an expectation that he could become of the world’s best.

“He could become one of the best strikers one day,” said Nagelsmann. “I have the vision that he can score 40 goals one day. But I would be happy with 10 goals in his first season.

“He’s a young, talented player. He can play in multiple positions: as a centre-forward and on the wings. He’s very quick and strong with his body. He can hold up the ball well with his back to the goal.”
