James Neesham, the uncapped Otago allrounder, has been brought into New Zealand’s squad for the third Test against West Indies as cover for Corey Anderson who has picked up a problem with his right shin although he is expected to be fit to take his place in the line-up on Thursday.During Anderson’s career he has had to deal with a number of injuries, the most recent being with a rib which he picked up in Sri Lanka but he is confident that the latest twinge is nothing to be concerned about.”It’s more just a precaution, doing the right things,” he said. “With an early finish to that second Test it made it easier. It’s been niggling away over the past week or so. It will be nice to get the results back this afternoon to see what it is but I’m still confident.”Anderson’s own experiences help him to judge when a problem is worth serious concern. “I’m starting to learn about my body and know when something is bad. I’ve had plenty of them before and they aren’t nice but this doesn’t feel like one of those.”It has been an encouraging series for Anderson following on from his debut in Bangladesh where he scored a hundred in his second Test. After a first-innings failure in Dunedin he helped calm the run chase, albeit the rain had the final say, and in Wellington he struck a confident 38 to ensure West Indies could not hurry through New Zealand’s middle order.The latest injury bulletin on Anderson – even if it proves minor – supports what Mike Hesson, the New Zealand coach, spoke about after the second Test when he said he did not foresee Anderson becoming a frontline seamer in the five-day game because they don’t want to push his body too hard.His performance in Wellington – a solid contribution in the middle order, three wickets from 17 overs and a safe pair of hands – is the template Hesson will want him to follow, providing the much sought-after balance of a fifth bowler but also a batsman capable of playing in the top six.”I still think my job is to get runs,” Anderson said. “I’m a batting allrounder and if I can chip in with the ball then that’s a bonus. At the moment I’ve had a couple of starts with the bat but it would be nice to kick on.”So far in the first innings of this series Anderson has walked in at 380 for 4 and 189 for 4, so hardly positions of crisis for New Zealand, and while he is more than content to watch the top order go about their work efficiently he is confident that, as he hinted in the Dunedin chase, he has the capacity to bail his side out of trouble.”Someone would have had to fail if that’s the case which you never like, but if I have to be put in that position I’m more than happy for the challenge. I’d go out there with the same mindset.”Understandably there is plenty of confidence from the New Zealand players after the manner of the victory in Wellington and the belief they would have been 2-0 up already without the rain. However, series wins have been a rare breed and they know this is a chance they can’t afford to let slip.”The win at the Basin was nice, but we want to do more than that – not just get excited at wins every now and again,” Anderson said.It was a view echoed by BJ Watling. “Cricket can bring you back down to earth pretty quickly. We’ve got ourselves into winning positions twice so won’t be changing too much.”

أعلن نادي ولفرهامبتون، في بيان رسمي منذ قليل، رحيل المدير الفني للفريق جوليان لوبيتيجي بعد اتفاق بين الطرفين.

كان لوبيتيجي قد انضم إلى ولفرهامبتون في نوفمبر الماضي، ونجح في قيادة الفريق إلى البقاء في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

ورغم ذلك، فإن ولفرهامبتون أعلن في بيانه رحيل لوبيتيجي عن تدريب الفريق بعد اتفاق الطرفين على إنهاء العقد.

وجاء في البيان: “أقر المدرب والنادي بخلافاتهما في الرأي حول بعض القضايا، واتفقا على أن إنهاء التعاقد وديًا حيث رأيا أنه الحل الأفضل لجميع الأطراف”.

واُضيف: “كانت المحادثات جارية في الأسابيع الأخيرة، وعُقدت بأقصى درجات الاحترام والود، مما أتاح للنادي الوقت والمساحة لبدء العمل على إيجاد البديل، مع التأكد أيضًا من أن لوبيتيجي وطاقمه يواصلان الاستعدادات لجعل الفريق في أفضل حالة ممكنة قبل بداية الموسم”.

من جانبه، قال لوبيتيجي: “أتمنى أن يكون لدى ولفرهامبتون ولكل في النادي كل التوفيق في المستقبل، أود أن أشكرهم على الفرصة التي حصلت علينا من قِبلهم في ذلك الوقت لتولي مسؤولية هذا النادي الرائع”.

وأكد: “أود كذلك أن أشكر اللاعبين الذين بذلوا دائمًا أقصى ما في وسعنا لتحقيق أهدافنا، وخاصة المشجعين الذين جعلوني أشعر كواحد منهم منذ اللحظة الأولى، وكان الأمر دائمًا مذهلاً بالنسبة لي ولطاقمي وعائلتي”.

أنهى منتخب الدنمارك أحلام منتخب مصر في تحقيق لقب كأس العالم لكرة اليد مواليد 2004 بالفوز بنتيجة 39-35 في دور نصف النهائي من بطولة العالم.

نجح منتخب الدنمارك في إنهاء الشوط الأول متقدمًا بفارق 5 أهداف بنتيجة 23-18.

Feliz e motivado. É assim que Yuri se mostrou na sua apresentação oficial como novo reforço do Fluminense. O jogador de 24 anos não escondeu a satisfação de voltar a trabalhar com o técnico Fernando Diniz, com que foi vice-campeão paulista pelo Audax, em 2016.

– Eu deixei bem claro que o Diniz foi um cara que me ajudou bastante. Voltar a jogar com ele é uma alegria enorme. Vestir essa camisa é uma alegria enorme. Estou muito feliz. Trabalhar com ele foi uma das melhores experiências da minha carreira. Melhorei muito como pessoa e como atleta. Para mim ele é um cara diferenciado. Muito bom trabalhar com ele novamente.

Regularizado, Yuri pode fazer a sua estreia já no próximo sábado, no clássico diante do Botafogo, pela quarta rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro. O volante se colocou à disposição para entrar em campo.

Yuri deixou claro que pode ser o substituto, tanto de Airton, quanto de Bruno Silva, no meio-campo do Fluminense.

– Me sinto bem tranquilo nas duas funções (1º e 2º volante) e até como zagueiro. Ele (Diniz) sabe que do meio para trás pode contar comigo.

Emprestado ao Fluminense pelo Santos até o fim do ano, Yuri explicou os motivos que o fizeram sair da Vila Belmiro.

– Eu não tive sequência porque quem vinha jogando, vinha bem. A gente sabe que futebol é isso. Aqui pretendo reconquistar o meu espaço e ser feliz.

Apesar de não ter tido muitas oportunidades com Jorge Sampaoli, Yuri afirmou que o treinador argentino é semelhante à Fernando Diniz e coloca os dois como os melhores técnicos do futebol brasileiro.

– Eles realmente possuem ideias parecidas. Para mim são os dois melhores treinadores do futebol brasileiro. Trabalham sem medo, apesar do futebol brasileiro te cobrar a vitória a todo momento.

Por ter defendido o Santos na Copa do Brasil e na Copa Sul-Americana, Yuri só vai poder jogar pelo Fluminense no Campeonato Brasileiro, tendo portanto 35 partidas para disputar até o fim da temporada.

Brad Hodge could play his first match for Australia in nearly six years after being called into the squad for the second Twenty20 in Melbourne on Friday.At 39, Hodge is Twenty20 cricket’s leading run scorer of all time, with 5844 at an average of 36.98 from his 209 matches in the format, and could be a valuable player at the upcoming World T20 in Bangladesh if the selectors chose to utilise his experience.However, while the Melbourne match could be viewed as an audition for the World T20, Hodge’s chances of playing in that tournament appear slim with Shane Watson and David Warner to return to the top of the order in addition to the men who beat England in Hobart on Wednesday.The allrounder Moises Henriques played in that victory but will now fly to South Africa for the Test tour and Cricket Australia confirmed that Hodge would be added to the squad for the Melbourne game as a replacement for Henriques.Whether Hodge will stay with the group for the third T20 in Sydney on Sunday remains to be seen but whatever the case, the call-up should give him a chance to play international cricket for the first time since the Test tour of West Indies in May 2008.The last of his eight T20 internationals came almost six years ago to the day, at the MCG on February 1, 2008, when Adam Gilchrist was still part of a side that accounted for India.Hodge’s recall is comparable to the call-up of a 40-year-old Brad Hogg in January 2012, when he was picked on BBL form and with a World T20 in spinning conditions in Sri Lanka on the horizon.”I never thought this day would happen again and it’s a pleasing day to wake up, the sun was shining this morning and I got the call from John Inverarity and it was a nice pleasant surprise,” Hodge said in Melbourne on Thursday. “I’ve probably had the game for a long time and I don’t need to call on anything else other than experience to know exactly what I can do.”I probably gave up the hope I suppose. MORATO – ZAGUEIRO – 17 ANOS

Felipe Rodrigues da Silva, mais conhecido como Morato, chamou a atenção de Cuca em um treino com o sub-20na semana retrasada e, agora que voltou de um período de atividades com a Seleção Brasileira sub-18, o convocou para ser observado de perto no CT da Barra Funda. Campeão da Copa São Paulo de 2019, o zagueiro foi um dos destaques da equipe na competição. Além disso conquistou outros títulos na base do clube, onde está desde 2015.

HELINHO – ATACANTE – 19 ANOS

Promovido para o profissional por Diego Aguirre em junho do ano passado, Helinho ainda demorou para estrear, mas fez isso em alto estilo, marcando um golaço,no empate com o Flamengo, por 2 a 2, em novembro de 2018, em partida válida pelo Brasileirão. Naquela ocasião ele substituiu Anderson Martins, no intervalo da partida. De lá para cá tem oscilado em suas atuações.

LUAN – VOLANTE – 20 ANOS

Promovido ao time de cima no meio da última temporada, Luan estreou como profissional diante do Corinthians, no Morumbi, no dia 21 de julho de 2018. De lá para cá, passou a ser elogiado por todos no CT da Barra Funda e teve seu trabalho reconhecido pela diretoria. Atualmente, suas atuações e sua função em campo são consideradas essenciais para as mudanças de rumo do time.

LIZIERO – MEIO-CAMPISTA – 21 ANOS

Chegou ao São Paulo com 12 anos e sempre se destacou pela versatilidade, podendo jogar em mais de uma posição no campo. Promovido aos profissionais em março do ano passado, fez sua estreia naquele mesmo mês, contra o Red Bull, pelo Paulistão. Passou a ser homem de confiança de Aguirre, mas sofreu com lesões. Em 2019, voltou a esses status com Mancini e Cuca.

IGOR GOMES – MEIA – 20 ANOS

Desde os 12 anos alojado no CT de Cotia, Igor Gomes foi promovido ao elenco profissional em 2018, mas só passou a ganhar chances neste temporada, especialmente na fase de mata-mata do Paulistão, em que decidiu o primeiro jogo das quartas de final, diante do Ituano. É visto no clube como uma grande promessa e com muito potencial para desenvolver ainda mais sua qualidade.

BRENNER – ATACANTE – 19 ANOS

Chegou ao São Paulo com 11 anos de idade para integrar as categorias de base do clube e foi promovido aos profissionais no meio de 2017. Seu status de joia tricolor criou expectativas demais em cima de um jovem de 17 anos, que oscilou muito de lá para cá e até foi “ultrapassado” por outros jovens que vieram de Cotia depois. No entanto permanece no grupo.

LUCAS KAL – ZAGUEIRO – 23 ANOS

Está no São Paulo desde os 13 anos de idade,mas estreou na equipe profissional do São Paulo em 2018, como volante, nos minutos finais de uma vitória por 2 a 0 sobre o Cruzeiro, no Mineirão, pelo Brasileirão. Pouco depois, foi emprestado ao Vasco – já havia sido cedido a Paraná e Guarani anteriormente. Em sua volta ao clube, tem sido pouco utilizado.

WALCE – ZAGUEIRO – 20 ANOS

Walce chegou ao São Paulo com 12 anos de idade e foi integrado ao elenco principal após o Sul-Americano sub-20 de 2019. Em Cotia, o zagueiro conquistou nove títulos, acumulou convocações para a Seleção Brasileira e demonstrou versatilidade. Estreou como profissional no início de maio, diante do Flamengo, pelo Brasileirão. Atualmente é titular da zaga tricolor.

JONAS TORÓ – ATACANTE – 19 ANOS

Outro jogador de grande destaque na base tricolor, Jonas Toró chegou para as categorias de base do clube emprestado pelo Primavera, mas suas atuações chamaram a atenção e o São Paulo resolveu comprar o jogador, que neste ano quase foi cedido para a Chapecoense, mas foi “resgatado” pela comissão técnica de Cuca. Estreou no profissional no fim de abril e tem sido utilizado.

LUCAS PAES – GOLEIRO/JÚNIOR – GOLEIRO/RODRIGO – ZAGUEIRO

Os goleiros Lucas Paes (21 anos) e Júnior (20 anos) são, respectivamente, o terceiro e o quarto na hierarquia da posição, e têm sido pouco aproveitados pela comissão técnica até aqui. Assim como o zagueiro Rodrigo (20 anos), que atuou apenas na Florida Cup, são no momento os jovens formados na base com menos participação, apesar de fazerem parte do elenco profissional.

ANTONY – ATACANTE – 19 ANOS

Atualmente é o mais badalado jovem da base tricolor que integra o elenco profissional. Promovido em setembro do ano passado, passou a ter mais chances em 2019, depois fazer uma excelente Copa São Paulo e de disputar o Sul-Americano sub-20 pela Seleção Brasileira. Decisivo na campanha do vice-campeonato paulista, é um dos principais jogadores da equipe.

In a tournament full of rash shots and missed opportunities on the field, Sri Lanka have committed fewer basic errors than all the other sides. It goes quite a way towards explaining their unbeaten record in the tournament so far.Pakistan, on the other hand, threw away a winning position against Sri Lanka. They were 117 for 6 against Afghanistan thanks to the shot selection of their top order. Misbah-ul-Haq has twice been run out in comical fashion. Against Bangladesh, Abdur Rehman was barred from bowling when he had figures of 0-0-8-0. And yet, despite all that, Pakistan may well start the final as favourites.After meeting each other in the opening game of the tournament, the two sides have taken divergent paths to the final. Sri Lanka, to put it a touch simplistically, have gone quietly about their business. Pakistan, on the other hand, have built up the sort of momentum that comes with winning thrilling matches. When you beat India by one wicket and chase 327 in your next game, you tend to believe you can win from any position.Pakistan’s batsmen, after an uncertain start to the tournament, have also found form. There’s Shahid Afridi, of course, but there’s also Mohammad Hafeez, who has scored half-centuries in his last two games, Ahmed Shehzad, who made a century against Bangladesh, and Fawad Alam, whose return to the side suddenly gave Pakistan someone who could hold their middle order together. Pakistan, though, have two major concerns going into the final. One is the form of their fast bowlers. Junaid Khan, Umar Gul and Mohammad Talha – their likely first-choice combination – have all been expensive, giving away close to or over run-a-ball. The second is the fitness of four of their players. Shehzad, Sharjeel Khan, Afridi and Gul have niggles of various kinds.Of the four, Afridi, who picked up a hip injury in the game against Bangladesh, looked most in doubt, and showed signs of discomfort during Pakistan’s training session on Friday. But their manager, Zakir Khan, said he was responding well to the physio’s ministrations, and it seemed as if Pakistan wouldn’t leave him out unless it became absolutely unavoidable.Sri Lanka, for their part, haven’t completely convinced as a batting unit. Kumar Sangakkara, Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne have scored runs, but the rest of the top six have been patchy. Kusal Perera has tended to throw away starts, while Dinesh Chandimal and Mahela Jayawardene have looked out of form. Sri Lanka bat deep, though, and match-turning contributions in a final are as likely to come from a Chaturanga de Silva or a Thisara Perera as they are to come from a top-order batsman.The pitches in Mirpur have been a little unpredictable, with one side of the square tending to produce uneven bounce and another throwing up good batting conditions. Spinners have played a massive role regardless of which pitch is used, though, and the most important mini-contest in the match could be the one between the two slow-bowling attacks.In Ajantha Mendis, de Silva and Sachithra Senanayake, Sri Lanka have one potential match-winner and two capable ODI bowlers. Watch out forLahiru Thirimanne struck an accomplished century against Pakistan in the opening game of the tournament, and has continued to look good at the crease without making any other big scores. Batting up the order seems to suit his game, and a good innings in the final could win him a longer run as an opener even after Tillakaratne Dilshan returns to the side.Mohammad Hafeez scored three centuries against Sri Lanka during the recent ODI series in the UAE, and has shown glimpses of that form in the Asia Cup. His bowling has been crucial as well, and he’s done a useful job with the new ball. He’ll probably do that in the final too, considering the number of left-hand batsmen in Sri Lanka’s top order.Team newsAshan Priyanjan took two wickets with his offspin against Bangladesh and timed the ball sweetly during his brief stay in the middle. But he was in the side only because Sri Lanka had already qualified for the final, and he will most likely make way for Chandimal.
