Jamie Vardy’s return to form under Brendan Rodgers has been no coincidence. The striker was devoid of confidence and Claude Puel seemingly had no faith in him.

But how quickly things can change in football. Since Rodgers walked through the doors at the King Power, Vardy has scored seven in seven matches.

It’s a superb record and as Arsenal march into town off the back of a crushing defeat against Wolves and in rather shambolic away from, the ex-England international will hold the key.

Vardy has history with Arsenal. Quite a lot in fact. Going into their latest encounter, he’s scored six in seven games, proving just how much of a thorn he’s become in the Islington club’s side.

He also famously rejected a move to the Gunners back in 2016. It’s probably no coincidence that he’s been so good whenever he’s faced them since that moment.

Per quotes from The Independent, Vardy spoke about why he rejected the move in September 2017: “I’m a bit of a psychic, I could see the little downfall they are on now. They had qualified for the Champions League for the last 20 years until last year. That was something to think about.”

Therefore, it would be quite the story if two years down the line, Vardy would dent Arsenal’s hopes of securing Champions League football for the first time since his comments.

It remains a real possibility, though. Arsenal were swatted aside with ease by Wolves and it wouldn’t be surprising if the same thing happened again this weekend.

Vardy will be the first name on Rodgers’ teamsheet and considering the gaps in the channels that Diogo Jota exploited against Unai Emery’s side in midweek, Leicester and their top goal scorer will be licking their lips.

The Arsenal defence has looked patchy to say the least and if the likes of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans can exploit the inevitable gaps then the 32-year-old striker will surely add to his 16 Premier League strikes this term.

وواصل: “أنا سعيد باللعب مع أياكس، أحب أسلوب لعبنا وطريقة لعب وعمل المدرب معنا”.

وعن حلمه بشأن مُستقبله: “لقد أردت حقًا أنّ ألعب في الدوري الهولندي، وأنا أحلم أيضًا يومًا ما باللعب في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “مانشستر سيتي هو فريقي المُفضل في إنجلترا، لذا سيكون ذلك مثاليًا”.

Spurs fans know they need to sign a defensive midfielder in summer, and their defeat to Ajax on Tuesday proved this yet again. With that in mind, Tanguy Ndombele is one of Europe’s best and he’d be a perfect upgrade on Mousa Dembele.

Eric Dier doesn’t seem up to scratch, Harry Winks is not yet developed enough and Moussa Sissoko appears to have reached his ceiling despite a solid season. Their midfield is lacking a world-class defensive midfielder but, after that, the sky really is the limit.

Indeed, Ndombele’s performances for Lyon in this season’s Champions League, as well as in Ligue 1, have raised eyebrows right across Europe’s top sides.

Now AS, via Sport Witness, believe Spurs are interested in bringing him to London, and it’s no surprise.

In his two games against Manchester City this season, he proved he’s capable of taking on the role of firefighter when Lyon get caught in possession and also has the ability to make the press-splitting passes of an attacking midfielder. Frankly, this is perfect for Mauricio Pochettino.

With the wealth of attacking talent at their disposal, they want to be able to commit as many men to their attack as possible. With Ndombele potentially sitting behind, they’ll have the support they need to prevent being ripped open by teams like Liverpool on the counter-attack.

That kind of midfield base can help Spurs transition quicker, tearing teams apart themselves.

He’s rated at £45m on Transfermarkt, so he won’t be cheap, but at 22-years-old he’s the perfect long-term replacement and step up from Dembele.

If Spurs capture this man, expect them to challenge for the title next season.

It seems like a lifetime ago when Maxi Gomez was the name on every West Ham’s lips, but things have changed a lot since then.

Whilst Celta Vigo continue to fight for La Liga survival heading into the final games of the season, Gomez’s form in the league has dipped significantly, scoring just three goals since his proposed move to the Hammers broke down in the winter transfer window.

Although Gomez has continued to be linked with teams around the continent, reports suggest the striker is actually comfortable staying in Spain with Celta.

Speaking to Marca via Team Talk, the striker said about his future: “There are many comments through social networks, what if I sign for Barcelona, if I go to Liverpool. I am very calm and in Vigo I feel very comfortable.”

These comments could come as a big sigh of relief to West Ham fans, who could now be dismayed from wanting the Uruguayan international from joining the club due to his poor form in recent weeks, and for Manuel Pellegrini, it will be a big release of pressure on his transfer budget.

With a reported price tag of £50 million, the Hammers would be wasting close to their entire budget on Gomez, which would have been a disastrous move for the club both financially and on the pitch.

The 22-year-old striker no doubt has a big future in the game, but West Ham can’t afford to gamble so much for a player who could fail in the Premier League, and these latest comments should more than turn Pellegrini’s attention away from Gomez.

وانتقل راينير على سبيل الإعارة إلى بوروسيا دورتموند في الميركاتو الصيفي الماضي، من أجل الحصول على فرصة للمشاركة في المباريات بسبب صعوبة ذلك مع ريال مدريد بعد قدومه من فلامنجو في يناير 2020.

ولكن لم يشارك البرازيلي سوى في بضع مباريات ولدقائق صغيرة في الموسم الحالي، وهو ما أغضب ريال مدريد كثيرًا في الأيام القليلة الماضية بحسب التقارير في الصحافة الإسبانية.

وتحدث المدير الرياضي لنادي بوروسيا دورتموند، مايكل زورك، عن سبب عدم مشاركة راينير المستمرة في تصريحات لصحيفة “Ruhr Nachrichten” الألمانية: “مازال راينير يفتقر إلى اللياقة البدنية المطلوبة، لأنه ظل بضعة أشهر لا يشارك أو يتدرب في إسبانيا”.

وتابع: “آخر مباراة شارك فيها راينير في إسبانيا كانت في مارس الماضي مع كاستيا (فريق الشباب بنادي ريال مدريد)، لذلك فما يحدث معه أمر منطقي”.

وبحسب صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية، يتمنى بوروسيا دورتموند أن يستفيد راينر من التجمع الدولي الحالي مع البرازيل للمشاركة مع المنتخب الأولمبي في مواجهة مصر الودية يوم 16 نوفمبر الجاري، لمحاولة زيادة لياقته البدنية قبل العودة إلى ألمانيا.

أعلن فريق ليفربول، منذ قليل، تغيير موعد مواجهة فريق ليستر سيتي الأسبوع المقبل في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الفريقان في الجولة التاسعة من البريميرليج، في ملعب الأنفيلد.

With Chris Wilder receiving the LMA Manager of the Year award Sheffield United’s board must use this as a message to stick with the 51-year-old, even if the club struggle in the Premier League next season.

The Blades boss became the first manager outside the top flight to win the award since Eddie Howe in 2015, despite the fact that United didn’t even win the Championship.

Wilder’s success

All of Sheffield United’s recent success has to be attributed to Wilder. He took over the club when they were a mid-table side in League One and he completely transformed the squad into Championship promotion winners.

Despite not winning the league this season, he deserved the Manager of the Year award over Daniel Farke for the size of job he has done.

Next season in the Premier League wouldn’t be possible without their gaffer, and the hierarchy at Bramall Lane have to keep that in mind even if the Blades flop in the top flight.

Could be disastrous

If the Yorkshire club don’t start out well next season and sack Wilder then it could have disastrous consequences in years to come.

The Blades boss hasn’t only brought incredible tactics to the Lane he has raised the game of every single player in the squad and brought the whole club together. If he is removed from his post in the first few months of the season, United will be left with a team full of players who struggled in League One just a few years ago.

Even the players that have been signed in the Championship have had their game raised by Wilder. David McGoldrick may have won the club’s Player of the Year Award, but just 12 months ago he was being released by Ipswich.

There may not be another manager in the world who could get these types of performance out of this group of players. If the Yorkshire club are to be relegated next season they must keep the same man in charge to give themselves the best chance of coming back up.

صحيفة “توتو سبورت” الإيطالية، أفادت بأن نادي يوفنتوس، قرر تفعيل بند أحقية الشراء في عقد موراتا، مقابل 45 مليون يورو، بعد أن تعاقد معه معارًا مقابل 9 ملايين يورو.

ورغم أن هناك أيضًا بندًا في عقد موراتا يسمح لتمديد الإعارة إلى عام إضافي، حتى نهاية موسم 2021/2022، بـ 9 ملايين، لكن يوفنتوس يريد شراء بطاقة اللاعب كاملة.

موراتا هذا الموسم سجل 6 أهداف وصنع هدفين في جميع مبارياته الـ8 مع يوفنتوس بدوري أبطال أوروبا والدوري الإيطالي، بمعدل مساهمة بهدف كل مباراة.

A lot needs to happen if Wilfried Zaha is to leave Crystal Palace in the summer.

In fact, at the £100m the south London outfit are said to be demanding (The Telegraph), it is unlikely to happen.

That being said, desperate clubs like Manchester United often do desperate things.

And if that desperation sees them do what needs to be done to sign the 26-year-old, then that leaves the likes of Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend really needing to step up.

The latter, in particular, has the ability to deliver and will need to start coming up with the goods more often if his team-mate does end up departing in this transfer window.

Currently, Townsend’s moments of brilliance only come in patches. While the 27-year-old is capable of leaving a defender for dead before firing an effort past the goalkeeper, he does not do it enough.

If Zaha goes, that has to change. In essence, the England international needs to take more responsibility and become a player his team-mates can consistently rely on.

The goal numbers, assist numbers and overall productivity in the final third all have to go up.

And looking at what Townsend, who is valued at £13.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), can do on his day, there is no reason why they cannot.

While many at Selhurst Park will be dreading Zaha’s potential exit, Townsend should be embracing it. It may end up giving him the sort of responsibility that could help him to really shine in Roy Hodgson’s team.

Jordan Ayew is surely destined for a move this summer and The Sun report that Southampton are the latest club interested in signing him. The purchase would allow them to add a forward with Premier League pedigree at a low cost.

What’s the latest, then?

Ralph Hasenhüttl could bolster his forward options this summer, with the likes of Danny Ings, Shane Long and Charlie Austin all having mixed seasons.

However, it may not be the signing Saints fans want. Ayew also struggled for form this season at Crystal Palace and was often used as a back-up option, resulting in just one Premier League goal scored in 20 appearances.

In fact, Ayew has never impressed on the goal-scoring front since his arrival to England in 2015. In four seasons he has scored 24 goals in all competitions, with some of those coming in a six month Championship spell.

Long is much maligned for his lack of goals but offers a whole lot more, which begs the question as to why Southampton would make Ayew a key target.

Positives of the move

Ayew would likely be offloaded at a low cost – he’s recently been valued at just £4million – allowing Saints greater room to manoeuvre in the transfer market. For example, they could still go after Ademola Lookman, who was recently linked by The Independent.

Furthermore, Hasenhüttl has built his brand on quick, attacking football and Ayew suits this style. He is a flexible forward who makes clever runs beyond the defence and drifts wide – opening up space for the likes of Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse. If he could form a partnership with Long or Ings, Saints could transform into a real attacking force that doesn’t spend next season fighting relegation.

Snapping up the Ghanaian early doors could also prove beneficial. With a pre-season under his built and an understanding of Hasenhüttl’s playing style, he could prove to be a real coup.
