A stunning onslaught from captain Leus du Plooy lifted Derbyshire Falcons to a thrilling six-wicket Vitality Blast win over Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston.After the Bears piled up 203 for 7, du Plooy smashed an unbeaten 66 from 25 balls to see his side to 207 for 4 with three balls to spare.Sam Hain’s unbeaten 79 from 36 balls in the Bears innings contained some breathtaking hitting but was trumped by du Plooy’s masterclass.After openers Luis Reece (57) and Haider Ali (48) added 96 in ten overs to set the perfect foundation for the big run chase, du Plooy built a memorable victory on it with an exhilarating display of hitting which brought him five sixes and four fours.England all-rounder Chris Woakes was socked for 51 in his four overs as the Falcons side completed a quickfire double over the Bears and handed them their third successive defeat.The first half of the Bears innings did not go to their plan after they chose to bat. Rob Yates made a perky 21 but leg-spinner Mattie McKiernan bowled potential big-hitters Moeen Ali and Glenn Maxwell through indeterminate shots before they could inflict any damage and also castled Alex Davies for a sketchy 26.Hain batted beautifully but needed support and found it from Dan Mousley and, after Mousley was bowled through a lap by Zak Chappell, from Woakes, who transformed the innings with 23 from 11 balls in a dazzling stand of 48 in 18 balls with Hain.Woakes was yorked by Zaman Khan but Hain was at his most destructive in the closing overs, thumping 36 from his last eight balls faced.The Falcons faced a testing target but, after riding their luck early on, Reece and Haider Ali played sweetly to raise 50 from 33 balls. They set down the perfect platform before being parted in scruffy fashion when Haider Ali charged and missed at Danny Briggs. Davies missed the stumping at the first attempt but, with the batter down the track, had time to complete it second time round.Moeen, playing his penultimate game for the Bears before he departs on Ashes duty, applied a brake with an astute spell which brought the wicket of Reece, bowled through a slog sweep. As the required rate escalated, and Wayne Madsen suffered a rare failure when he holed out to Mousley, the pressure increased on the Falcons.Du Plooy went to the crease with that pressure at its height. He needed to hit brilliantly from his first ball – and did so to take his side to a victory which tightens the North Group table right up.

ERROS DEFENSIVOS
Atuando em casa, o Bahia foi para cima do adversário desde o início da partida e logo levou perigo à meta de Thiago Rodrigues. Matheus Ribeiro errou, e Lucas Mugni aproveitou e rolou a bola para Jacaré emendar pela esquerda. O arqueiro vascaíno espalmou para fora e afastou o perigo. Em outra chegada, Davó recebeu o lançamento na área, mas finalizou para fora.

ANDOU NA PRANCHA
Apesar do Bahia ter comandado as ações no início, foi o Vasco quem abriu o placar. Nene cobrou escanteio na cabeça de Bruno Tubarão. O atacante dividiu no alto com Danilo Fernandes, cabeceou, mas a bola tocou no peito de Ricardo Goulart e estufou a rede. Mesmo a bola tendo tocado no adversário, Bruno fez sua comemoração com referência ao Tubarão.

VACILO COLOMBIANO
Em dois lances, o clima esquentou entre os jogadores, e o árbitro distribuiu amarelos. Matheus Bahia fez boa tabela com Daniel pela esquerda e cruzou rasteiro. Quintero tentou fazer o corte, mas no carrinho colocou a bola contra o próprio patrimônio deixando tudo igual.

GOULART POR CIMA
Com o gol de empate, o Bahia voltou a ter mais força ofensiva e, por pouco, quase virou. Marcinho cruzou pela direita e Daniel cabeceou por cima. No fim do primeiro tempo, Lucas Mugni fez a cobrança de escanteio. Nene e o sistema defensivo vascaíno não prestaram atenção e deixaram Ricardo Goulart subiu sozinho para cabecear e estufar a rede.

AVALANCHE TRICOLOR
Na volta do intervalo, os donos da casa passaram a dominar a partida com facilidade, enquanto o Cruz-Maltino apresentava muitos erros na saída de bola. Marcinho cobrou escanteio curto para Daniel fazer o corta-luz e Jacaré emendar, de longe, por cima do gol. Na sequência, Quintero errou mais uma vez, e Davó invadiu a área e chutou em cima de Thiago Rodrigues.

CHANCES SEM DIREÇÃO
Depois da cobrança de escanteio de Nene, Andrey acertou um belo chute e a bola passou perto da meta de Danilo Fernandes. Em seguida, o Vasco voltou a assustar, desta vez, com Anderson Conceição, de cabeça. A bola tirou tinta da trave.

O Bahia respondeu quando Jacaré achou Luiz Henrique na área, que soltou a bomba à queima-roupa. No último lance, os visitantes tiveram a chance de empatar, mas Eguinaldo tentou finalizar e acabou atrapalhando Gabriel Pec.

After a loss in the first ODI, New Zealand fought back with vengeance in the second via centuries from Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine to beat Sri Lanka by 116 runs and draw level in the three-match series in Galle.Kerr and Devine added 229 for the third wicket, the third-most for New Zealand for any wicket and the best in a women’s ODI in Sri Lanka. While Kerr scored 108, Devine finished with 137 off just 121 balls, hitting 17 fours – the joint-most by a batter in an ODI innings in Sri Lanka – and two sixes.Opting to bat first again, New Zealand lost Suzie Bates early but were back on track when Kerr added 50 for the second wicket with Bernadine Bezuidenhout. Left-arm spinner Jake Lintott claimed 3 for 43.In reply, Warwickshire made 233 for 6, winning with 6.2 overs to spare. Barnard led the way, facing 111 balls and striking 11 fours. Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher finished with 3 for 47 on his first Somerset appearance.On a cloudy afternoon in front of a 4,500 crowd, the hosts soon plunged into trouble. A ida para final do continental já estava definida como uma das metas previstas pelo Conselho Deliberativo do clube no começo do ano. Entretanto, Rogério Ceni ainda se mantém com ‘os pés no chão’. Ao ser indagado na coletiva de imprensa se ‘dormiria tranquilo’, rebateu destacando existir uma forte diferença entre está classificado para final e ser campeão. Também trouxe à tona o próximo desafio do São Paulo.

– São duas coisas distintas. Dormir campeão e dormir pronto para jogar uma final tem uma diferença brutal na vida. Ser campeão é o que marca, jogamos 90 minutos contra um bom time que vem se destacando. Se no dia primeiro, me sagrar campeão, vou dormir tranquilo. É diferente ir para final e ser campeão. Já começo a pensar no jogo de domingo – concluiu.

The win gave the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, and took them to a sole second position on the Women’s Championship table with 14 points from eight games.After Wolvaardt won the toss and put New Zealand in, Amelia Kerr led the way, scoring 88 off 110 balls. Alongside Suzie Bates, she added 49 in a first-wicket stand in which Bates’ contribution was 14. Masabata Klaas provided the breakthrough by castling Bates, and then removed New Zealand captain Sophie Devine in her next over, also bowled. In all, there were seven bowled dismissals, the joint second-most in an ODI innings. In fact, all ten New Zealand wickets fell without any assistance from a fielder – two batters were lbw and one was caught-and-bowled.Amelia found support from Maddy Green, who struck 43 off 50 balls, and the pair added 92 in 82 balls for the third wicket. Left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba removed Green in the 31st over, triggering a collapse that had New Zealand slip from 158 for 2 to 199 for 8. Para chegar ao seu segundo título da Copa Sul-Americana, em que faz a final contra o Independiente del Valle, às 17h (de Brasília) do próximo sábado (1/10), o São Paulo precisará superar um adversário que se mostra ingrato ao longo da história: o estádio Mário Kempes, em Córdoba, na Argentina.

O Tricolor nunca venceu no local em sua história. Foram duas partidas ao todo, ambas contra o Talleres, maior time local, e a decepção marcou os duelos.

Em 28 de julho de 2001, a equipe paulista foi ao local antes de sua reforma, em 2010, e ficou no empate em 0 a 0, resultado que ajudou na eliminação ainda na primeira fase da Copa Mercosul.

A segunda e última visita são-paulina em Córdoba é traumatizante, para dizer o mínimo. Em 6 de fevereiro de 2019, o clube levou 2 a 0 do Talleres no jogo de ida da fase preliminar da Copa Libertadores. Na volta, ficou no 0 a 0 em pleno Morumbi e acabou eliminado.

Inicialmente chamado de Chateau Carreras, por conta do bairro onde está localizado, o estádio de Córdoba é mais uma obra impulsionada pela então ditadura militar argentina para a Copa do Mundo de 1978, realizada no país.

A construção começou dois anos antes. E em 16 de maio do ano do Mundial, a inauguração aconteceu com um amistoso entre a seleção argentina e um time formado por atletas das equipes de Córdoba e região. Vitória dos futuros campeões mundiais por 3 a 0.

Dois dias depois, os dois clubes locais, Talleres e Córdoba, realizaram um amistoso que estrategicamente terminou empatado em 1 a 1 para evitar uma briga generalizada que se espalhou pelas arquibancadas e terminou com 413 presos.

A confusão obrigou o fechamento da praça esportiva para reformas emergenciais e impediu os planos da ditadura de fazer os dois maiores times argentinos, Boca Juniors e River Plate, realizarem uma série de superclássicos nos estádios do Mundial. Dias depois, o ‘evento teste’ em Mar del Plata também foi descartado pela péssima qualidade do gramado. E o River, dono do Monumental de Nuñez, não quis o rival em sua sede.

Com isso, o estádio de Córdoba foi reaberto somente na Copa. A cidade foi a sede da Alemanha (que estava no Grupo 2) e do Grupo 4. Foram cinco jogos na primeira fase. Na segunda, sediou o Grupo 1 da semifinal e foram mais três partidas realizadas.

Desde então, o estádio pertencente à província de Córdoba (espécie de governo estadual), a 698 quilômetros da capital Buenos Aires, é escolha certa nos grandes eventos esportivos realizados no país, como duas edições de Copa América (1987 e 2011) e o Mundial sub-20 de 2001. Abrigou também o Superclássico das Américas de 2011, dos locais contra o Brasil.

Esta será a segunda vez que Córdoba abrigará a final da Sul-Americana. A primeira foi em 2020, na primeira edição com decisão com jogo único, em que o Defensa y Justicia bateu o Lanús por 3 a 0.
