Five year offer: Nottingham Forest close in on first signing of the summer

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal that will kick off a further pair of departures this summer, it has emerged.

Forest navigating tricky financial waters

Having been docked four points by the Premier League for breaching financial fair play regulations, Forest will be doing everything that they can to avoid a repeat next season. Nuno Espirito Santo's side only survived by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season, condemning Luton Town to the Championship in their place.

Now, it has emerged that they have to raise around £20m through player sales before June 30th to comply with the regulations once more, though they are said to be "relaxed" about the situation as they look to offload fringe players.

They have already freed up significant wages thanks to the departures of Wayne Hennessey, Harry Arter, Cheikhou Kouyate and Felipe, which will save a combined £160,000 per week (£8.3m per year).

Forest are also set to send Nuno Tavares, Gio Reyna and Gonzalo Montiel back to their parent clubs, which will free up yet more cash.

On top of that, Joe Worrall, Emmanuel Dennis and Lewis O'Brien are thought to be free to leave, with the latter attracting interest from Ipswich Town. As a result, there is confidence that compliance will be achieved, and now they have turned their attentions to incomings.

Forest to trigger three deals

First on their list appears to be goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, who has a release clause of just £3.5m written into his £6.4k per week contract with Brazilian side Corinthians.

The no.1 spot has been a problem for Forest, with several goalkeepers trialled and none really impressing, which seems set to see them sign yet another option this summer.

The Brazilian is already well acquainted with Forest defender Murillo, who made the move from Corinthians to the City Ground last summer. The pair spent a season together, though they only played together four times across the course of the campaign.

Now, they look set to be reunited, with Football Transfers reporting that the Midlands outfit are 'closing in' on a deal for the 25-year-old shot-stopper. They add that 'personal terms have been verbally agreed' and that Miguel is 'expected to sign a five-year deal' in Nottingham.

His arrival will spark a series of transfer dominoes, with the 6 foot 8 Miguel – one of the tallest footballers in the world – being the seventh goalkeeper signed by the club since their promotion to the Premier League, and their fifth permanent addition.

Hennessey will be leaving as a free agent, but more are expected to depart, with Odysseas Vlachodimos among those likely to leave as a result the report adds. Meanwhile, Matt Turner is also "available" after a series of shaky performances, which will likely see Matz Sels remain no.1 and Miguel slot in as the new no.2 in the Midlands.

New Zealand secure extra Australia T20Is

Among other tours in the works, the New Zealand women’s team will host England for a series in February and March

New Zealand have secured a home Twenty20 international series against Australia in late February and early March – at the same time as the team coached by Justin Langer is meant to be playing a Test series in South Africa – as part of a more complete schedule than might have been expected in the time of Covid-19.On Tuesday, New Zealand Cricket announced that it would go ahead with Test Championship series against the West Indies and Pakistan as outlined in the Future Tours Program, while also fulfilling a commitment to play limited-overs matches against Bangladesh. The only home series that has fallen by the wayside relative to the original FTP is a tour by Sri Lanka, while the arrival of an Australian T20I side for five matches between February 22 and March 7 will be a considerable boost for the NZC coffers. It is unclear as yet whether this will be a full-strength touring team, given the FTP states that the Australians are due to play a Test series in South Africa in February and March as part of their own Test Championship obligations.Among other tours in the works, the New Zealand women’s team will host England for a series in February and March, while negotiations for an Australian tour of New Zealand is ongoing.ALSO READ: If Australia’s Test and T20I teams played on the same day, what would the XIs be?”Hosting these tours is incredibly important to us for two reasons: international cricket brings in revenue that funds the entire game of cricket in New Zealand and, also, it’s crucial that we look after the fans of the game and sport in general, especially during these difficult times,” the NZC chief executive David White said.”We’ve worked very closely with Cricket Australia in what is, really, a unique set of circumstances – and we can’t speak highly enough of their commitment to the global game. The same goes for the West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh and England – right across the board in cricket there’s been a real spirit of cooperation.”The schedule unveiled by NZC also leaves room for the country’s domestic T20 tournament, the Super Smash, to be played largely free of clashes with international cricket in January and early February, after the postponement of a limited-overs tour of Australia originally slated for late January.

Chelsea express desire to sign £102 million forward as exit wish confirmed

Chelsea have expressed a desire to sign one £102 million forward, as his agents confirms the players desire to quit his club this summer.

Maresca set for busy first transfer window at Chelsea

Following the signing of defender Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham on a free transfer, the Blues are by no means finished with the centre-back's arrival in west London.

"Special" £40 million ace wants to join Chelsea and partner Nicolas Jackson

He thinks he’d be perfect for Maresca.

ByEmilio Galantini Jun 18, 2024

Chelsea have been heavily linked with moves for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran and Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise over the past week, as co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart look to reinforce Enzo Maresca's attacking options.

Duran is very keen to make a move to Chelsea, while it is believed that Olise has already agreed to swap Selhurst Park for Stamford Bridge by shaking hands on personal terms. The two potential additions would significantly bolster Maresca's options, as the club look to back a manager who they believe is the perfect fit to take them forward.

"Maresca believes in the Chelsea project around young players with a big future," wrote Fabrizio Romano in one of his Daily Briefings.

"He thinks it is a really exciting project. Meanwhile, Chelsea are convinced he’s a super talented coach and that’s why he’s a name appreciated by both directors and owners, all convinced he can be the man for present and future. Maresca’s obsession with ball possession, quality football, dominating the game, his knowledge of elite football despite being a young manager – all of this made the difference for Chelsea to pick him.

"It will continue to be a busy summer at Chelsea. It won’t be completely crazy but they will try to make smart things happen, including a new goalkeeper and I expect them to try for at least one new centre-back, but it could be two. I also expect Chelsea to be busy with the striker position."

They also appear to be on alert over Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the Georgian's situation in Serie A, who has set his sights on leaving despite Antonio Conte's arrival at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Napoli forwardKhvicha Kvaratskhelia.

"We want to leave Napoli, but now we're all waiting for the Euro 2024," said his agent, Mamuka Jigeli, to Sport Imedi (via The Standard)

"With [new manager Antonio] Conte, Napoli have big plans. I'm sure they will qualify to the Champions League again next season and fight for the Scudetto. But that doesn't mean that Kvaratskhelia wants to stay there."

Paris-Saint German have apparently had an £85 million bid rejected for Kvaratskhelia, with some reports suggesting Napoli could hold out for a figure close to the £102 million mark.

Chelsea express desire to sign Kvaratskhelia amid public exit demand

As per reports in Spain, Chelsea have now expressed a desire to sign Kvaratskhelia, who racked up 11 goals and six assists in the Italian top flight last season – while finishing 23/24 as Napoli's best overall performer according to WhoScored.

Napoli forwardKhvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The 23-year-old was even more impressive during Napoli's charge to the 2022/2023 Serie A title, bagging 12 goals and 10 assists on their run to a first Scudetto in decades, and he currently stands out as one of Europe's most electrifying forward talents.

Who is Abdullah Shafique?

All you need to know about the 20-year old batsman whose debut century handed Central Punjab a win against Southern Punjab

Danyal Rasool01-Oct-2020

Abdullah Shafique was the Man of the Match for an unbeaten 102 from just 58 balls•PCB

Following Central Punjab’s remarkable run chase against Southern Punjab yesterday, in which 20-year old Abdullah Shafique smashed a debut hundred, ESPNcricinfo sheds some light on who he is, and what you need to know about him.Who is Abdullah Shafique?
Well, for starters, he is not related to Asad Shafiq – but hey, he scored a T20 hundred and played a match-winning innings, so you may have guessed that. He’s no relation to Shafiq Papa either, the first class legend who soared to fame on the back of his domestic exploits. He does have cricket running in his blood, though, with his father, Shafiq Ahmed, also having played first-class cricket in Pakistan. Besides, his uncle, Arshad Ali, has played international cricket for the UAE.He is a 20 year old from Sialkot who represented the Sialkot Region at U-16 and U-19 levels while honing his craft at the Amir Waseem cricket academy. The academy, founded by the man it was named after, has produced several reputable cricketers for Pakistan. Why are we talking about him?
Well why wouldn’t we? Making his T20 debut in the National T20 Cup yesterday, he batted alongside arguably the best domestic T20 batsman Pakistan has ever had in Kamran Akmal – a man twice his age – and outshone him comprehensively in a daunting chase of 201. While Akmal hit 75 off 41, Shafique was by no means content to play second fiddle, sticking around after Akmal had been dismissed, and finishing the job off, reaching a 55-ball hundred in the process. He smashed four sixes and 11 fours against a bowling attack that includes Mohammad Irfan, Umer Khan and Aamer Yamin, and began his innings by staring down a hat-trick ball in the first over. Why, indeed, are we talking about anything else?
Well, that’s not too bad, but maybe this was a one-off? Lightning doesn’t strike twice.Well, lightning has struck at least twice. He has only ever played one first-class match, called up to the first XI for a Quaid-e-Azam trophy match, also against Southern Punjab – maybe he really likes these Punjab derbies. He scored 133 in the only innings he batted, and thus yesterday, became the first Pakistan player, and just the second in cricket history, to manage debut hundreds at both first-class and T20 level. Were people in Pakistan impressed? He got some live appreciation from the most prominent cricketers in Pakistan while he was at the crease. Mohammad Hafeez praised his batting technique and “process to score runs”, while the Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali simply remarked “what a knock!” That sort of attention should do his prospects no harm, particularly if he can carry on how he began at this National T20 Cup.So if he’s this good, can we see him at the PSL please?Well, now you can certainly expect him to. He was actually snapped up by Multan Sultans three years ago at the draft before he had even turned 18. While that didn’t result in any appearances, don’t be surprised if he’s much hotter property for next season’s draft.

"No" – Leeds given brutal answer to links with permanent midfield signing

Leeds have been warned that a deal for one of their midfield targets will be hard to conclude this summer by a transfer insider, who admited a move looked unlikely.

Leeds set for summer of change

After missing out on promotion to the Premier League, Daniel Farke's side are set to see plenty of changes to their squad before the new Championship season begins. Joe Rodon's loan spell is over and he will return to parent club Tottenham, while Jaidon Anthony will do the same for Bournemouth.

Leeds now set to sell £50k-p/w ace in permanent transfer with "fee secured"

His exit will help the Yorkshire side balance their books this summer.

1 ByBen Browning Jun 20, 2024

Elsewhere, financial concerns mean that Championship player of the year Crysencio Summerville seems set to depart, and he could be joined by plenty of other stars.

All of Wilfried Gnonto, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter have been linked with moves away, and reinforcements will be needed.

Leeds get Skipp response

Now, an update has been forthcoming over a potential move for Oliver Skipp, currently plying his trade with Tottenham Hotspur. Farke has previously admitted his admiration for Skipp, who starred for him when the two worked together at Norwich.

The midfielder was virtually ever-present in Norwich's title winning side under the German boss, and was named in the Championship team of the season that year.

“I am quite careful in praising them too much but actions are more important than any words and when you look at Oliver’s season you can realise that he has played more or less every second in the league for us, for a side that has lots of competition in the squad", Farke explained.

“This says a lot about how much I rate him and how much I value him, I don’t want to praise him too much in public, it’s more like each and every day I keep on criticising him."

And reports had linked the midfielder with a move to Elland Road to link back up with Farke should Archie Gray or Ilia Gruev depart the club this summer amid interest from across Europe in the pair.

However, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has poured cold water on that speculation, especially on a permanent basis. Even on loan, he suspects that Tottenham would be unlikely to let the 23-year-old leave due to homegrown quota concerns.

“I don’t see it, mainly because Skipp is a homegrown player at Spurs and had chances there. He would be a very expensive signing. If it was a loan with an option, possibly. But in terms of a permanent deal, no", he told Leeds United news.

“I think it will depend on the player but with Hojbjerg leaving I don’t see Skipp leaving this summer personally. Could be proven wrong and if he does go, I think Leeds would be at the table for him. It wouldn’t be a cheap deal, though.”

Leeds fans will be hoping that Farke's relationship with Skipp could help sway things in their favour should Spurs opt to shift the Englishman.
