Arsenal’s "prolific" £265k-p/w first-team star linked with shock exit

Arsenal could lose a first-team star in January, with a fresh report revealing which club are looking to prise him away in a shock exit from the Premier League.

Which players left Arsenal in 2023?

At the Emirates Stadium, Edu and Mikel Arteta let Folarin Balogun, Granit Xhaka, Matt Turner, Auston Trusty, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding, Nicolas Pepe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all leave the club on a permanent basis, while there were also plenty of stars to head for the exit door temporarily.

The Gunners sanctioned loan moves for Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Arthur Okonkwo and Runar Alex Runarsson, but with all eyes now firmly on the upcoming transfer window at the start of the new year, an interesting claim has emerged surrounding a fan favourite in North London.

Last summer, Gabriel Jesus arrived in the capital from Premier League rivals Manchester City and it’s fair to say that he’s majorly impressed during his 42 appearances (Transfermarkt – Gabriel Jesus stats) at the club so far, but he’s also had his fair share of setbacks when it comes to his injuries.

Back in August, Brazil’s striker had surgery on his knee having been absent for a large part of the second half of last season, via Sky Sports, which caused him to miss the first two top-flight games of the current term, but upon his return to action, the 26-year-old has crept his way onto the radar of a high-profile club overseas.

Gabriel Jesus transfer update…

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via CaughtOffside), sharing a Gabriel Jesus transfer update, Napoli have added the centre-forward to a three-man shortlist should they lose Victor Osimhen in January.

The Serie A star has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea meaning that his club will need to find a replacement if he departs, and alongside Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Lille’s Jonathan David, Arteta’s talisman has emerged as another target. Whilst it will be a difficult task to secure his services, Edu could reportedly be tempted to sanction his sale should he receive a significant offer at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.

How many goals has Gabriel Jesus scored?

During his time at Arsenal, Jesus has 22 contributions (14 goals and eight assists) to his name in 42 outings which shows how “prolific” he can be in the final third, as hailed by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, so should he leave next year, it would be a real blow for Arteta.

The Brazil international, who pockets £265k-per-week (Arsenal salaries), is also averaging 2.2 dribbles per match in the top-flight this season (WhoScored – Jesus statistics), highlighting his desire to use his pace and take on his marker to create chances for himself and his fellow teammates.

In addition, Jesus is a versatile operator having previously been deployed out wide on both the left and right flanks alongside his usual role leading the line through the middle since the start of his career, so it’s hugely important that the club do everything they can to retain the services of their attacker in 2024.

Notts end celebrations for Parkinson and Jennings

It felt like a night to remember for Keaton Jennings and Matt Parkinson, but their exploits with bat and ball counted for nothing as Notts emerged victorious

ScorecardNottinghamshire, the Royal London Cup holders, reaffirmed their credentials with a thrilling come from behind win over Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford during the opening night of the competition. The Outlaws defended a target of 319 as the Red Rose county slipped from 245 for 3 after 40 overs when it looked like they would secure their record chase.Lancashire’s Keaton Jennings opened with an excellent 136 during a mixed day for him, with them finishing on 309 for 9, losing by nine runs.He also claimed a career best two-wicket haul, but the England hopeful will be frustrated that, despite a third successive century in all forms, he fell in the 47th over to leave the score at 288 for 6. Harry Gurney had him caught at square-leg pulling before Jake Ball struck twice in the next. Left-arm seamer Gurney finished with three for 61.After electing to bat, Outlaws captain Steven Mullaney crunched a whirlwind 70 during the final 20 overs of an innings which started well, stuttered and was revived fiercely on a superb surface.Chris Nash and New Zealand overseas Ross Taylor hit 52 and 58, with the 84 for the fifth wicket in 12.2 overs shared between Taylor and Mullaney sparking a late flood of runs after 128 for one had become 164 for four inside 32 overs. While the last 10 overs yielded 106 runs, Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson claimed all of his five wickets inside the last seven on the way to career best figures of five for 68 on his Red Rose List A debut. He had Taylor caught at long-off and Mullaney, who faced 54 balls, caught at cover.Captain Liam Livingstone and Dane Vilas then attacked for 33 and 41 respectively, taking all the pressure off left-handed Jennings in the chase. He shared half-century stands with both of them (70 with Livingstone and 63 with Vilas) as the hosts reached the 30-over mark ideally played at 179 for three. The former Durham man reached his fourth career List A off 98 balls with nine fours just under six overs later, becoming the fourth player to score a century on Lancashire List A debut.Jennings added 87 for the fourth wicket with Steven Croft before the score fell to 245 for 4 in the 41st with the departure of the latter to Samit Patel. At that stage, Notts were still behind, but they weren’t for long as new ball pair Gurney and Ball combined to leave the target at 16 off the last, bowled by Ball, with only last pair Arron Lilley and Parkinson to get them.

Newcastle plot move to sign "special" player in January – reliable reporter

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has identified an exciting potential addition in January as he looks to bolster his squad, according to reports.

Newcastle United updates: Tonali investigation, Wesley Gassova links

As per Sky Sports News, Newcastle United summer signing Sandro Tonali has been involved in an investigation by the Turin Public Prosecutor's Office regarding a betting probe. Tonali was questioned by the organisation alongside international teammate Nicolo Zaniolo before both players were allowed to return home, and it is now confirmed that neither will participate in Italy's double-header against Malta and England.

Bolavip Brazil, via Sport Witness, have also delivered an intriguing Newcastle United transfer update involving Corinthians attacker Wesley Gassova, who is reportedly someone who has been earmarked as a target in the North East.

The report states that Gassova has a €100m release clause inserted into his contract at Corinthians; however, the Magpies have no intention of paying such a fee and wouldn't need to in any given scenario.

GOAL Brazil meanwhile have claimed that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes now has the third-highest salary in the Premier League after Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah following his decision to commit his future to the Magpies for another five years.

Conflicting reports have suggested otherwise; nevertheless, Guimaraes has emerged as a huge fan favourite at St James' Park and is understood to have a release clause in the region of £100 million in his latest contract agreement.

Newcastle United will use the international break for some respite and to put in some hard yards on the training pitches before the Magpies return to action against Crystal Palace at home on October 21st.

Newcastle United transfer news – Emile Smith Rowe

According to a Newcastle United transfer update on Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe from Northern Echo reporter Scott Wilson, PIF Investments are set to meet to discuss potential targets ahead of January and the England international has emerged as someone who the Magpies could look to pursue in the New Year.

Newcastle United boss Howe will be present in discussions and his input, alongside others chairing the conversation, will help to provide a definitive answer to the sort of transfer budget the 45-year-old will have to alter his squad mid-season.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

Smith Rowe, who has been labelled "special" by pundit Jamie Carragher, has featured 102 times for boyhood club Arsenal across his senior career, registering 11 goals and 18 assists in the process (Smith Rowe statistics – Transfermarkt).

Injuries have prevented his opportunities to make more of an impact at the Emirates Stadium despite his obvious talent; however, he is now back fit and firing following a long-standing issue with his groin, as per Sky Sports.

With his openings now limited even more at Arsenal due to the arrival of Kai Havertz in the summer, resurrecting his career in the North East could be an appealing thought for the 23-year-old.

Aaron Finch says 'settled' Australia ready to hit back in one-off T20I

Australia’s T20 captain believes they will take confidence from their recent success against England in the shortest format

T20 a chance for Australia to ‘strut our stuff’ – Finch

Aaron Finch believes Australia will take confidence from their recent T20 success against England into the standalone fixture at Edgbaston and has said the different format gives his players the opportunity for a fresh start after their 5-0 loss in the ODI series.Australia won the Trans-Tasman T20 Tri-Series earlier this year, beating England twice before going on to defeat New Zealand in the final. They have most of the same squad available at Edgbaston, although Finch is captain in the absence of David Warner, who led them to success in February before his embroilment in the Cape Town saga.”We’ve played really good T20 cricket over the last little while,” Finch said. “That was with Davey as skipper in the T20 tri-series but we’ve got a pretty similar group and the guys are playing some really good cricket in that format. It’s probably a format the guys have played a lot more of in the last 12 months, with Big Bash and IPL and things like that.”It’s just about trying to get some continuity over the next six games and really start to develop a core squad that we can take forward almost with one eye on the 2020 World Cup at home.”Finch has captained Australia in both the 20-over and 50-over formats and there has been speculation he may take the ODI reins should Alex Carey, his vice-captain for this game, be favoured as wicketkeeper over Tim Paine, who struggled with the bat in the series against England and admitted his place would be up for discussion.”Someone asked me about this the other day and I haven’t spoken to Tim about anything like that. I haven’t thought about it to be honest,” Finch said. “If the opportunity came up at some point, having done it a couple of games in New Zealand going back quite a while, if the opportunity is there anyone would love to captain their country but Tim’s the man for the job.”Australia will head home via Zimbabwe for a tri-series also involving Pakistan. While there have been security concerns surrounding the tour, Finch said the players had been briefed by the security team and felt comfortable with arrangements. Along with this one-off fixture, the upcoming matches give Finch a chance to nail down the captaincy.Aaron Finch, Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting chat at training•Getty Images

“Yeah I think so,” Finch said when asked. “I think when I had the job last it was one game here and there tacked on to a long tour and it would almost be a heap of guys that ship out and a couple of guys would come in to just play one game here and there.”So I think the amount of T20 that’s coming up, I think most of them are three-game series against other countries so it’s going to be a great opportunity for guys to start to really cement their spot, put their hand up and be the one going forward in their position and just get some continuity with selection and playing more games.”But before that, Australia will be desperately seeking a win to finish a disappointing tour on a high. After England’s last-gasp victory at Old Trafford, Eoin Morgan recalled the way the team’s confidence was affected by a string of losses before the 2015 World Cup. “There was a big mountain to climb,” in terms of belief, Morgan said. But Finch rejected the idea that Australia’s poor ODI form against England – they have lost 10 out of the last 11 contests between the sides – will have a lasting effect.”We’ve just got to start winning, we’ve just got to play better cricket,” Finch said. “I don’t think when we turn up next year for the World Cup there’ll be any mental scars there, they’re probably more for England to be fair. They haven’t won a World Cup and it’s at home so no doubt the pressure will be huge on them.”In the one-day format the confidence was definitely affected, England put us on the back foot from the word go and we weren’t able to catch up. But we’ve had success in this format, from seventh in the world to first or second which is a great achievement and done it with mixed and matched teams. We’re getting more settled. The confidence took a hit in the one-dayers but I don’t think there will be anything to worry about in this format.”

Colin Ingram has spoken of his relief of overcoming a mystery illness, although there remains uncertainty over what caused the problem which left him with breathing difficulties.Ingram’s illness came on suddenly while he was at his flat in Cardiff and he was taken to hospital. As a result he missed two T20 Blast matches but returned with an unbeaten 46 against Middlesex.”There’s a lot of question marks at the moment,” he told . “Most of the specialists I’ve spoken to feel it’s some sort of auto-immune cause that could have built up over a length of time, or just triggered by something small.””It’s great to be happy and healthy again and to have made a full recovery so far.”Ingram needed clearance before he could resume playing because of the drugs he was given in hospital and the therapeutic exemption certificate came through as he was travelling to Richmond to face Middlesex.”Some of the things they gave me when I was hospitalised were necessary to revive me, but had to be cleared by Drug Free Sport, so I’m thankful to the medical team and the work they put in as well,” he said.Ingram’s absence meant Glamorgan were without a clutch of top-order batsmen due to injuries to Shaun Marsh and Joe Burns plus Usman Khawaja’s return to Australia for a training camp. They coped well, however, securing victories against Surrey and Gloucestershire, before the win against Middlesex on Ingram’s return made it three in a row to leave them fifth in the South Group.
